Troubleshoot OMS Files

Issues Opening OMS Files

Missing HP Embedded Web Server

When trying to open your OMS file, you get the error "Can't Open OMS File Type". Usually, this is because you do not have HP Embedded Web Server for %%os%% installed. Your operating system cannot associate your OMS with HP Embedded Web Server, so double-clicking the file won't work.

Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your OMS, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").

Incorrect HP Embedded Web Server Version

Sometimes your installed version of HP Embedded Web Server won't support your HP Printer Substrate Presets Package File file. If you do not have the proper version HP Embedded Web Server (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. This issue mainly occurs when your HP Printer Substrate Presets Package File file was created by a newer version of HP Embedded Web Server than you have on your PC.

Tip: Right-clicking on your OMS, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.

Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening OMS files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.

Additional OMS Opening Issues

Assuming you have the right HP Embedded Web Server version installed, other problems can prevent you from opening OMS files. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening OMSs. Issues that aren't software-related:

  • Corrupt Windows Registry file path references for OMS
  • Unintentional removal of the description of the OMS file inside the Windows Registry
  • Corrupt install of HP Embedded Web Server or other OMS-related program
  • Something has caused file corruption of your OMS
  • The OMS is infected with a virus
  • Hardware related to OMSs has device driver corruption
  • Too many applications are open on your PC to load your HP Printer Substrate Presets Package File file successfully
