Troubleshoot TR5 Files

Troubles Opening TR5 Files

OnyxTREE BROADLEAF is Not Installed

If you attempt to load your TR5 file, you experience a message such as "Can't Open TR5 Files". When this happens, it is commonly due to OnyxTREE BROADLEAF missing in %%os%%. The OS won't know what to do with your TR5 file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.

Tip: Another TR5-related program can be selected to open the file by clicking "Show Apps" and finding the application.

Wrong Version of OnyxTREE BROADLEAF is Installed

Occasionally, you might have an outdated version of OnyxTREE BROADLEAF installed that's incompatible with your OnyxTree Professional Data type. If you've got the wrong version of OnyxTREE BROADLEAF installed, you'll need to install the correct version. This problem is predominately due to having a OnyxTree Professional Data file version that was created by a newer version of OnyxTREE BROADLEAF than what you have installed on your PC.

Tip: Right-clicking on your TR5, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.

Regardless, most of the TR5 file opening problems relate to not having the right version of OnyxTREE BROADLEAF installed.

Other Causes of TR5 File Opening Problems

Assuming you have the right OnyxTREE BROADLEAF version installed, other problems can prevent you from opening TR5 files. There can be other issues - unrelated to software - preventing you from opening TR5 files. Issues that aren't software-related:

  • TR5 file type Registry entries are wrong
  • Mistaken removal of the Windows registry TR5 description
  • Defective install of a TR5 program, such as OnyxTREE BROADLEAF
  • Your TR5 file is corrupted (issues with your OnyxTree Professional Data file itself)
  • Your TR5 is infected with malware
  • Device drivers for TR5-related hardware are out-of-date
  • Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the OnyxTree Professional Data file
